Got Gray Whiskers?

Last weekend, it was unseasonably warm for January, especially in certain parts of the country and as a result, the ride scheduled for the Ownesboro, KY chapter of OBRC had a real good turnout. I figured the large turnout was a combination of reasons, but mainly because the warm temps (high 40's, to low 50's) would allow us to ride farther and more comfortable then we have for the last 3 to 4 weeks. The other reason is because most of us know there is a good chance we MAY not see temperatures this warm on a weekend again for another 3 to 6 weeks, and for SOME bikers, that can be a long time, especially when it comes to NOT being able to make a short road trip or ride.

What or who is an older biker?

An older biker is first and foremost a biker. That means someone that has a special connection and feeling for their motorcycle.
To them, a bike is more then simply a vehicle used to transport them back and forth to work or an expensive toy. It is an expression of their individuality, freedom and independence.

Their bike is not just a machine. It is more like a family member, very special friend, or pet. It is a source of pride, an escape from the reality of everyday life and faithful companion. It offers them a chance to soar through the day like an eagle glides effortlessly through the sky,

My First Year

The Following Story was transferred over from our old website.

"RIDING WITH OBRC" Older Bikers Riding Club for me has been a wonderful adventure so far to date. I didn't have loads of riding experience when I joined about a year ago. I had just bought my third bike of my life and it had 6500 miles on it. In just one years time riding with this club I now have over 20000 miles on my bike. Between my second bike and my third bike a lot of years have passed.

Changing Priorities

The Following Story was transferred over from our old website.

Changing Priorities

Today, while cleaning out a spare bedroom, in order to make room for potential guests from out of town, I realized how much that spare room and my priorities have changed over the years.

At one time, that room was used primarily as a playpen for a cat. Then it became a storage room, a bedroom for my son, then storage again, then a bedroom for my son and granddaughter and finally a storage room again. Now we are converting it into a guest room for visiting bikers from other states.

Pieces of My Heart

Not since One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest has there been a story like Pieces of My Heart

www.cyrilhuzeblog.com.../pieces-of-my-heart-not-a-love-story-to-make-you -mad-laugh-and-cry/Pieces of My Heart will touch you like no other story ever has. Love story, it is NOT! It's a story about life and the
road trips along the way.
Gotta say it. there's wierdos and assholes and there's the bikers that pack the pages of PIeces.
This is a riveting true story of a biker woman who started riding in '74 when riding wasn't cool

Planning Ahead

The Following Story was transferred over from our old website.

Many years ago, when I was younger and I was working as an over the road truck driver, I tried to make preparations for my family in the event I was ever involved in a fatal accident. I made arrangements in advance as to who would raise my children in the event my wife and I were both gone. I also made sure another family member living in a separate house had a copy of my will and all my final requests.

As the years went by , my assets changed and so did my priorities.

Life is About Making Choices

The Following Story was transferred over from our old website.

Life is about making choices.

Last Saturday, when I woke up, I had to make a choice. The temps were only supposed to be in the 40's all day long, so I could stay at home where it was warm, and do one of those nasty 4 letter words "w-o-r-k" OR I could get on my bike and go to a bike scavenger hunt. I choose to go on the bike scavenger hunt.
Due to such a poor turnout, (the only bikers that showed up were a hand full of our club members) the organizers cancelled the event and decided to postpone it for one week. SO, our club members took a vote and decided that since we were already out on our bikes, we could all go back to our nice warm homes or we could go for a ride. We all choose to go for a ride.

My Search for Friends

The Following Story was transferred over from our old website.

I started riding a bike back in the 60's, before I got married and had children. At that time movies about "biker gangs" were real popular and since I was a "wild child" I ended up joining a club and spent most of my time with my fellow club members and really enjoyed the connection and camaraderie I shared with them.

As I matured, I eventually got married and like many other family men, ended up having other obligations in my life such as a job and children that placed limits on my free time including the amount of time I could spend riding.

By the time I was old enough to retire and free to ride whenever I wanted, I discovered myself in a new town where I did not have any friends to ride with, so I started going to poker runs, hoping to meet other bikers I could ride with. Unfortunately there just isn't enough time during these runs to build a relationship with others, unless you want to spend hours sitting in a bar and since I am not that interested in sitting in bars all night, I never found anyone at the poker runs to ride with.

Winter Events for Older Bikers

During the summer months, being able to attend a local "Bike Night" event on a regular basis is nice because it helps you to meet other bikers,

make new friends and reacquaint yourself with old friends.

However during the colder winter months, when many of the "Bike Night" events are cancelled in the colder states,

it can be hard for bikers to find events on a regular basis where they can meet up with other bikers.

Therefore we are proposing that each chapter of Older Bikers set up a weekly "game" day or night where our members can get together for:

Road Trip to South Bend & Nappannee, Indiana

Harlady, KyBellBoy and I are back from our latest road trip and we had a GREAT time. The Older Bikers Riding Club Brothers and Sisters from the South Bend Indiana chapter took real good care of us. Richard and Ann took us out to eat at a very nice Italian Restaurant on Friday night, then offered to let us stay in extra bedrooms at their house.
